UAE is home to not only glittering skyscrapers & lavish malls, but also to some of the most charitable people whose humanitarian efforts are creating a philanthropic culture. One such example is the Pereira family who instead of throwing a usual themed birthday party for their son celebrated it by distributing meals amongst a blue-collar workers camp in Al Quoz.
On 2nd February 2018, the Arabian Gulf camp was quite a sight bubbling with happiness with over 500 labours lined up for their meal. Celebrating their 9 year old kid’s birthday, the Pereira family served set lunch meals to labors which included a biryani and some sides topped up with an Indian dessert.
The joy came not from candles on any cake, but from the labourers’ enthralling faces and innocent smiles from having received a special meal. The blessings showered and the content filled faces were the gifts Arif received which were far more invaluable than the materialistic counterparts. Food is a great gift, but it takes a backseat in comparison to the gift of compassion, kindness and humanity that the Pereira family has been involved with second year in a row now. They hope to inspire more families to continue spreading goodwill with such acts.
The idea of celebration is to share the joy of the moment, be it with anyone or anywhere. At times we get so involved in our own battles that we forget the many people who are challenged by hunger, lack of compassion or just life’s everyday hardships. It’s only fair to put aside ours and to spend some time in making the deprived ones feel special too.
